About the Entry

Maryland.gov’s engaging design is based on a combination of analytics, surveys, focus group feedback, and industry best practices. Maryland.gov was developed with a mobile-first approach and utilizes responsive design techniques for flexible display on smartphone, tablet, desk, or laptop devices to meet the citizens where they are.

Maryland.gov continues to introduce a constant flow of innovations and new technologies. The technology blueprint includes an emphasis on evolving the delivery of digital services into a seamless communication platform that supports multiple channels to deliver information and services to citizens, businesses and visitors alike. Emerging technologies have the potential to transform governance and produce a more open and participatory political culture that engender trust and makes collaborative problem solving possible.

Maryland’s enterprise strategy to centralized and standardized digital government services positively impacts how citizens and businesses interact with the State. The Maryland.gov enterprise communications platform maximizes the use of this strategy to deliver a citizen focused, best-in-class platform for more than 88 million annual visitors, providing access to hundreds of time saving online services, agency sites, social media mashups and real-time government news and events. The Maryland.gov communications platform focuses on three core tenants: Communications, services first and ease of use.

In the past year, Maryland has launched more than 40 new mobile-ready digital services and introduced connected technologies including Augmented Reality, Chatbots and Alexa Skills directly to the citizens to extend their relationship with the State of Maryland. The Maryland.gov platform ensures each user has the same experience across all platforms.
