About the Entry

The purpose of visitdetroit.com is to attract visitors and meeting planners to metro Detroit by engaging them with passion-based content through a seamless user interface that allows people to find events, attractions, hotels and what’s nearby in a few simple steps.

Bring the old site into the mobile era and create a responsive design and mobile-friendly interface. We wanted the site to offer an amazing event search experience, clearer navigation and improved mapping capabilities so users could quickly and easily orient themselves with metro Detroit and its destinations, attractions, restaurants and hotels. We also wanted the site to expertly combine content from the magazine and blog, as well as information useful to our members and meeting planners.

Additional goals: Engage users through passion-based content. Build awareness. Inspire user action. Showcase the neighborhoods and districts of Detroit.

Connect disparate databases, CRM and web systems. Refine workflows and build digital tools to help the CVB accomplish its goals. Migrate and include appropriate content, tags and past urls to ensure existing SEO rankings are maintained. Build a digital ecosystem and hub that will help the CVB easily manage, publish and share content; aggregate data; to understand their audience and measure success.

The new site was launched in the spring. We were prepared to see website traffic fall. Instead, we saw an uptick in page views from 48,700 the month prior to launch to more than 54,000 during the launch and more than 55,000 the month after launch.
