The manifestation of Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) occurs both in the physical and emotional realms, bringing discomfort and distress to the sufferer. Even more, 40% of patients taking dopamine agonists (DAs), the current treatment of choice, will experience a significant, long-term side effect called “augmentation.” Augmentation causes RLS symptoms to become more severe than they were prior to treatment.
The Horizant “Augmentation” campaign utilized a coordinated, multi-platform media campaign to communicate the serious concern of augmentation for RLS patients, along with the anxiety and dread that comes with the re-emergence of RLS symptoms. The authentic story of Theresa, and her struggle with augmentation, urges patients to raise the issue with their doctors and discuss alternative treatment options.
